My Story

I am a Portland-based singer, songwriter, composer, dancer, and teacher. My music exists to tell stories, synthesize feelings, and to remind us of our fundamental interdependence and connectedness (with eachother, with everything alive, and with the non-organic, too). I am fascinated with movement. I am writing about it and in it and through it all the time. I use a variety of techniques and processes to make things, including electronics, extended technique, movement, improvisation, conversation, found sounds, and folk-pop technique. I perform in Portland with Big Mouth Society, and my compositions have been performed by Big Mouth Society and Fear No Music. My featured solo performance in the world premiere of Emily Lau's The Common Opus was prised by a critic as "a highlight."

I am the manager and a chef at a dim sum restaurant and tea house called Cloud Pine Tea & Culture. Cloud Pine is a three-year art project devised by composer, performing artist, and chef Emily Lau, exploring food, culture, and identity. When the restaurant closes in June of 2024, Emily and I will travel to China to write a book about our collective experiences; about restaurants, food, people, eating habits, living deliciously, and how two such different people (me, a country bumpkin from Montana, Emily an immigrant from Hong Kong) came to together to share a table and create a place where people can eat a meal and feel like they are at home.

I have a partner whom I love very much. She is the one hiding behind most of my songs these days. We are writing an ecological post-apocalyptic fantasy novel together about dragons and fallen cities.

I love to eat.
